What are my options if I have low score in NEET

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is an entrance exam in India for students who want to pursue medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, and other related courses. The NEET score is used by colleges and universities to determine the eligibility of the candidate for admission.

The NEET exam has a maximum score of 720 marks. The low, high, and medium scores for NEET can be subjective and vary based on the year's exam and the competition. Generally, a score above 600 is considered a high score, a score between 400-599 is considered a medium score, and a score below 400 is considered a low score.

The low, high, and medium rank percentiles for NEET can vary from year to year based on the exam's difficulty level and the number of candidates who appeared for the exam. However, in general, a percentile rank above 90 is considered a high percentile rank, a percentile rank between 50-90 is considered a medium percentile rank, and a percentile rank below 50 is considered a low percentile rank.

For example, if a candidate's percentile rank is 95, it means that the candidate scored equal to or better than 95% of the candidates who appeared for the NEET exam. Similarly, if a candidate's percentile rank is 60, it means that the candidate scored equal to or better than 60% of the candidates who appeared for the exam.

It is important to note that the admission process for medical colleges is not solely based on the NEET percentile rank. The final admission decision also takes into account other factors like the number of available seats, category-wise cut-off, and the candidate's academic performance in the qualifying exam.

If you have a low score in NEET, there are several options available to you:

Take a Gap Year:

You can take a gap year to prepare for NEET again, and work on your weak areas to score better in the exam. You can use this time to join a coaching institute, attend online classes, or take up a correspondence course to improve your preparation.

Apply for Private Colleges:

You can apply for private medical colleges that offer admission on the basis of their own entrance exams or through management quota. However, the fees in private colleges can be much higher than in government colleges.

Participate in State-level Counseling:

Each state conducts its own counseling process for admission to medical colleges. You can apply for state-level counseling and get admission to medical colleges in your state based on your NEET score.

Participate in Deemed University Counseling:

Deemed universities also conduct their own counseling process for admission to medical courses. You can apply for deemed university counseling and get admission to a deemed university based on your NEET score.

Pursue a Different Course:

If you are not interested in pursuing a medical career, you can explore other career options in science, arts or commerce streams.

Study Abroad:

You can consider studying medicine abroad in countries like Russia, China, and Ukraine, where admission requirements are not as strict as in India. However, studying abroad can be quite expensive, and you may have to learn a new language.

Other Degrees which require NEET but lower cutoff than MBBS are BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS.

Consider Other Health-related Courses: If you are interested in the healthcare sector, you can explore other courses like nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, or optometry that have less strict admission requirements.

Other options in Biology could be Degrees in Life Science like BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Zoology, etc

Pursue a Different Course: If you are not interested in pursuing a medical career, you can consider other options such as engineering, law, management, or other courses based on your interests. You can enrol for career counselling to assess your skills and interests for next best option.

It is important to remember that your NEET score does not define your future. There are several other opportunities available to you, and with hard work and determination, you can achieve your goals
